Day 1

We bought a boat! Yay! After searching and searching, we found something that ticks all the boxes for us. We are landlocked, we live in Utah, and most of the lakes nearby are wayyyyy lower then normal. Basically, we were looking for a sailboat with a cabin big enough to sleep on with our dog (KOA), simple to sail (even for one person), and sailable in the Great Salt Lake, or Utah Lake. We knew we wanted a swing keel that is easily trailerable. AND that is precisely what we found.

It took us a while to buy and find it, and a bit of persuading my husband, to the point would rather just get a damn boat to shut me up. 🙂

Its perfect! Well… it needs some TLC, but just exactly what we wanted.

  • 1971 Macgregor Venture 22
  • Swing Keel (800lbs of solid lead)
  • 1 foot draft
  • Outboard 9.8hp tohatsu 4 stroke
  • Trailerable
  • Decent rigging (last replaced 10 years ago, but no frays, looks decent despite age)
  • ok sails (will be fine this season)
  • hull is in great shape – no fractures

  • Wright Voyage ?
  • Bess (Ben & jess) ?
  • Boaty McBoatface ?

So we bought it!!!! And called all the harbors nearby and finally got a slip location for the boat at Lindon Marina. Its small, privately owned – and pretty chill. The harbor Master Ron also gave us a dry storage area (near a power supply – so we can sand/paint the boat) included in the seasonal slip fee.

Then Glen, previous owner of 10 years, towed the boat for us to the harbor and assisted with the Mast and rigging set up. This was super helpful since 1. We don’t have a vehicle that is capable of towing, 2. It was Fourth of July weekend and all Uhaul trucks were booked up. 3. Glen helped us get it all set up for the first time.
